Septic Inspection

After talking to the Realtor we determine the location of the septic tank, have checked the baffles and are now measuring the sludge and scum layers. We have now located the drain field and dug some test holes and are examining the condition of the soil, looking for ponding in the aggregate. With this information we can get a historical view of what has been going on in the system.

Now we have found the distribution box and checking for the following Even distribution, this is important because if the flow is uneven then one part of the drain field will get all the flow of effluent and reduce the life span of the drain field, deterioration of the concrete could mean that the distribution box could cave in at any time causing the system to stop excepting effluent, then causing a back up back into the house, and accumulation of sludge in the distribution box gives us clues to as how the septic tank has been maintained. One of the last things we do is video the septic system. We will run the camera down the inlet and outlet pipes of the septic tank, then we open up the distribution box and look into the plumbing and actual components of the drain field. From this proceeder we are able to see if any of the pipes has settled and how the leaching components are functioning.
